Young People's Theatre Company gets in the Christmas spirit!

Young People’s Theatre Company members have ended a fantastic year in style with a performance looking at Christmases past, present and future.

The New Vic Borderlines group, which works with some of Staffordshire’s most disadvantaged people, teamed up to perform A Solitary Child in front of family and friends after spending recent weeks bringing the piece together.

The performance formed part of the company’s Next Chapter project which is funded by Staffordshire County Council’s Adult Community Learning Service.

Inspired by the New Vic’s mainhouse show, A Christmas Carol, the group of 14, aged between 14 and 26, looked at how past actions can impact on the present and how making changes in the present can impact the future.

Young People’s Theatre Company Director, Filiz Ozcan, who devised and directed the piece, said: “It was a great performance, the group really pulled together to create something very special.”

A Solitary Child marks the end of a busy year for the Young People’s Theatre Company, a year which has seen company members perform Shakespeare in an Indian restaurant and take a trip of a lifetime to represent the UK at the annual Without Frontiers Youth Festival, an international youth festival in Rozanystok, Poland.

Filiz added: “It has been a brilliant year for the Young People’s Theatre Company, the group just keeps getting better and better!”
