Artists invited to celebrate age in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire

3rd July 2017

New Vic Theatre, Keele University and Age UK North Staffordshire are on the hunt for local artists to be part of a major project celebrating age.

The exciting opportunity will see five artists work with local community groups as part of Meet Me At Live Age, a New Vic, Keele University and Age UK North Staffordshire project which aims to develop arts events and performances created by and for older people.

Artists are invited to submit a proposal to work in any art form – from performance pieces to digital artwork – that will engage, enthuse and bring out the creative potential of the community.

Working alongside local community groups, the successful artists will go on to showcase their work as part of the Live Age Festival, an annual celebration of creativity in later life, which is set to be held in Stoke-on-Trent this October.

Jill Rezzano, Head of New Vic Education, said: “We are incredibly proud to be able to play a part in making our community a vibrant and creative place for older people to live and we welcome applications from artists of all ages to help us fulfil this ambition.”

The fee for each commission will be £2,500 (inclusive of VAT and materials). Artists will begin working with their groups in August 2017 and will continue their commission through to March 2018.

To apply, artists should send the following to Isla Telford, Live Age coordinator, on by 12pm on Thursday 20 July:

  • CV
  • Examples of work
  • 350 words explaining why you are interested in the commission and outlining your approach to developing older people’s confidence, leadership and participation
  • A proposed schedule of how you might work with a community group in this time frame.

For further information, please contact Isla Telford on 07505 527230. Community groups interested in working alongside the chosen artists are also being encouraged to get in touch for further information.
