Borderlines turn back the clock…

25th July 2018

New Vic Borderlines joined forces with the community to tell the stories of iconic Newcastle-under-Lyme nightclub, Maxims, in celebration of Belong Village Newcastle opening its doors.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Lost and Found at Maxims culminated a year-long heritage project in partnership with Belong who opened Belong Village Newcastle in May.

The Borderlines piece was performed by community cast of more than 20 at the New Vic in April and in May at Belong and explored the memories of people who have visited or worked at Maxims over the course of their lives.

Alongside offering 24 hour nursing and dementia care, independent living and a host of community facilities, the Village features the Belong Heritage Gallery which is sited in the former Maxims nightclub. Supported by a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, the gallery will link the past and present through shared memories, experiences and reminiscence.

Susan Moffat, Director of New Vic Borderlines, said: “Working on the Maxims project has been a privilege, it is genuinely the essence of what we seek to do in New Vic Borderlines – putting the world of our community on stage, giving voices to their stories, experiences and lives and sharing them to inspire others.

“Performances by our community members are always memorable. We were immensely proud to play a part in bringing these fantastic community memories to life as the former nightclub begins its next chapter.”
