New Writing at the New Vic

We aim to commission one new play each year from an experienced playwright who has a significant body of work. In recent years commissioned writers have included Lisa Evans and Bryony Lavery. Writers currently under commission include Alecky Blythe, Amanda Whittington and Sudhar Buchar.
We get to know writers by seeing their work on stage and also by reading scripts.
If you have a production you would like us to see, please send a leaflet or ask your literary agent to bring it to our attention.
Reading scripts
Regrettably we are unable to accept unsolicited scripts.
If you feel your script would be of interest to the New Vic, please send us:
- a one-page synopsis of the play
- the first ten pages of the script
- a brief biography or CV
We will return your script only if you include a stamped addressed envelope.
Please do not send your only copy of a play. Although every care is taken with your work, we cannot be held responsible if it is lost. It is also crucial that you ensure that your address and contact details are clearly written on the script itself as well as the accompanying letter.
You should expect to receive an acknowledgement that your script has been received and, within six months, a response. We apologise that we cannot provide any commentary on your script and are not able to enter into correspondence about it.
If you would like to receive a report on your script, we suggest you send it to Script, the West Midlands’ script development agency (www.scriptonline.net) or to one of the national new writing theatres who operate an extensive script reading and reporting service. |
