The New Vic is the regional producing theatre serving Staffordshire and surrounding areas. This means that we make plays here - an average of ten major productions each year; designed, directed, built and presented at our unique theatre - in - the - round.

But the New Vic is much more than the work that appears on its stages. We also have extensive community involvement, with award-winning education and community outreach teams doing groundbreaking work with more than 20,000 local young people each year.

With our many concerts and other single events, art, photography and craft exhibitions, and a shop, restaurant and bars, the New Vic is a vibrant and internationally - known community resource.

Like all regional theatres of its kind, the New Vic cannot survive on ticket revenue alone. Direction and design, costume and prop making, new writing and our extensive community involvement - these are just some of the essential and costly activities which make us different from larger commercial theatres.

The New Vic operates thanks to a unique partnership between the Arts Council of England, Staffordshire County Council, Newcastle Under Lyme Borough Council and Stoke on Trent City Council. Any funding shortfall has to be made up from sponsorship, charitable donations and fund-raising. Every penny counts and every penny is prudently spent to sustain and develop our work for the communities we serve. We are helped in this work by a large network of volunteers and by the New Vic Friends.
