Feisty fairies, swashbuckling pirates and ticking crocodiles are flying into the New Vic next Christmas, as the theatre-in-the-round announces a spectacular new stage adaptation of J M Barrie’s classic, Peter Pan.

The timeless tale of the boy who never grew up has captured the imaginations of children and adults for over a century. And to celebrate the 150th anniversary of J M Barrie’s birthday, New Vic Artistic Director Theresa Heskins is returning to the original story to recreate the magic of the beloved children’s classic.
The production will see the theatre go from Narnia to Neverland, with the high-flying show announced just as this year’s seasonal epic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe becomes the theatre’s most successful production ever.
Heskins, who has written and directed this year’s critically-acclaimed adaptation of the C S Lewis classic, said: “It’s hugely exciting to be able to bring J M Barrie’s magical story to life. I’ve always been fascinated by the adventures of Peter Pan, Wendy and the lost boys, of Tinker Bell and the dastardly Captain Hook – it perfectly captures the magic and imagination of childhood.”
In planning since mid-air adventure The Wicked Lady took to the stage in July, the breathtaking production will also bring a unique in-the-round approach to one of its biggest boasts – flying. Adds Theresa, “Having learnt to fly in the round during The Wicked Lady earlier this year, we can’t wait to let our imaginations run riot on a play we’ve always thought couldn’t be done in the New Vic’s auditorium. We spent this winter in Narnia; next year we’re off to Neverland. And preparations start right now!”
