The best of the region’s budding talent is joining forces with an award-winning TV and film composer this month to present the Midlands premiere of a new musical.

Youngsters from the New Vic Theatre’s acclaimed Youth Theatre are working with ITV, BBC and Film 4 composer James Atherton, to present The Garden at the North Staffordshire venue.
A timeless story of friendship, justice and belonging, The Garden is an enchanting tale to warm the heart this spring.
When the Shelton family arrive at their new house, siblings Henry and Agnes are drawn to a mysterious locked garden. What will they find there? And will they be able to accept it?
Composed by James, the New Vic Youth Theatre production heralds not only a regional premiere for the musical, which has only been performed once before, but will also see the group of local 14-18 year olds take on their first ever full-scale musical.
Said James: “I have to say that the talent here has blown me away. These young people are amazing.”
The musical director, who has worked with the Royal Opera House and Youth Music Theatre UK, added, “It’s been a real privilege to work with them. Most of these youngsters didn’t turn up at the auditions as seasoned musical theatre performers, but they now sound as good as the professionals.
“It will be an unbelievable show.”
At the creative helm of the New Vic production is Youth Theatre Director Cathryn Baker, who directed the company’s hugely successful production of Cuba last year.
The Garden runs from Fri 20 – Sat 21 March. Tickets costing £5.00 (concessions available) can be booked by calling the Box Office on 01782 717962 or online at book online page.
