'The best play about the Holocaust that I have ever seen....
accurate, moving, engaging and relevant'

Ruth-Anne Lenga Institute of Education
Head of Holocaust Education Development Programme

Dear Colleague

Following on from the tremendous success of the tour of YIZKOR across Staffordshire in November 2010, we are delighted to inform you that this important play is going to be touring Stoke on Trent & Staffordshire from 31st October 2011 until the 2nd December 2011.

YIZKOR follows the experiences of two teenagers Ariella and Moshe between May 1939 and May 1944. The play has been written using witness and survivor testimonies of teenagers during the Holocaust, therefore every word that is heard is authentic and accurate. Throughout the play the voices of Ibi and Waldemar Ginsburg, two Holocaust survivors who worked with the New Vic over the last 8 years are heard.

The play is set in a Shtetl in Eastern Europe and allows audiences to gain an important insight into a way of life, a culture and religion that was wiped out as a result of the Holocaust. It helps us to understand the human story behind the unfathomable facts and figures, and the way that ordinary people's lives are affected by discrimination and racial hatred.

"This stunning production set in an age of persecution and intolerance has a message of survival and courage which will resonate with young and old alike" John Fisher Jewish Telegraph

The play is suitable for year 9 and above, and is accompanied by a work-pack for teachers to use in class-room activities which includes the play script and some audio files from Wal and Ibi Ginsburg.

The cost of the performing the play in your school and an interactive workshop with the actors is £750 plus travel expenses. (some schools may be eligible for subsidy)

This price includes 2 performances at each school, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. An interactive workshop with the actors, a YIZKOR work-pack including a range of classroom resources and activities, the play script and audio files featuring Waldemar and Ibi Ginsburg and a YIZKOR passport for each pupil.

We are also able to offer free of charge an additional performance held at your school for you to invite parents, governors VIP's and members of the wider community.

This play will help you to deliver Holocaust education to Year 9 Students and is also relevant to students studying History, English, RE, Citizenship and Drama.

The resources in the work-pack also meet aims and objectives across a range of curriculum areas.

Each performance should be for a maximum of 150 students enabling a total of 300 students to access and benefit from the YIZKOR project.

This would mean that from only £2.50, each pupil would gain benefits from seeing the production of YIZKOR and experiencing an interactive workshop with the professional actors following the play. In addition, for no extra cost, the school would receive the YIZKOR work-pack which includes the script and invaluable primary source audio from 2 Holocaust survivors.

We are taking bookings for this project now and ask you to register your interest with Adhia Mahmood the New Vic Borderlines administrator on 01782 381368 or email her on amahmood@newvictheatre.org.uk You can fax back the booking form with your preferred dates and she will confirm if they are available.

I would encourage you to book YIZKOR as soon as possible, in order that you can get your preferred date and so that we can send you some pre-project materials.
