The New Vic Education team’s summer season is in full swing, with the team hosting exciting projects for young people, allowing them to explore their creativity, learn new skills and meet new friends.
Here we take a look back at what’s been happening and what is coming up…
Last week, New Vic Education invited children into a world of timeless imagination as their popular holiday project Play In A Week returned. Taking young people on an unforgettable journey through history, children aged between 10 to 15 rehearsed and performed The Time Travellers’ Playground, a new play written by New Vic Youth Theatre Director and Education Practitioner Amy Fletcher. During the weeklong programme, the group had the opportunity to learn about the play, read-through the script, be cast in a part, and rehearse with fellow cast members leading up to a performance for family and friends. For younger children, The Time Travellers’ Adventure allowed children aged between five to nine to enjoy a two-day workshop exploring dinosaurs, medieval castles and marvelling at what the future might hold through playing games, creating crafts and taking part in drama-based activities. Take a look at the pictures below to see what the groups got up to!
This week, the team are out on the road with the world’s most famous animal doctor – Dr Dolittle. An exciting and interactive one-woman adventure show, New Vic Education’s Dr Dolittle is touring to libraries across Staffordshire until Friday 15 August. Adapted by New Vic’s Head of Education Jill Rezzano, writer of many of the New Vic’s popular Christmas Tale Trail adventures, Dr Dolittle is busy capturing young imaginations and encouraging a love for stories. Tickets are free though booking in advance is advised – see DR. DOLITTLE RETURNS TO STAFFORDSHIRE LIBRARIES THIS AUGUST! – New Vic Theatre for tour locations.
For young people looking to continue drama workshops and performance, the New Vic Youth Theatre’s new termwill begin this September and the team is recruiting for new members to join the exciting weekly sessions. The Youth Theatre is a great opportunity for young people aged 4-19 with an interest in arts and drama to explore performance techniques and theatre skills in a safe, fun and inclusive environment. No previous experience is required, and the sessions, which are divided into different groups according to age, are designed to build confidence, explore new friendships and encourage creativity. Now is a great time to sign up and secure a place!
