ALL ABOARD! NEW VIC BORDERLINES’ STRATHCROSS GROUP PRESENT A FISH OUT OF WATER THIS CHRISTMAS

3rd December 2025

New Vic Borderlines’ Strathcross group take to the main stage on Monday 15 December for their annual Christmas show as they share their new play A Fish Out Of Water.

Strathcross, a community group for adults with learning difficulties who regularly meet up at the New Vic for creative workshops led by the New Vic Borderlines team, will present a festive treat this December as they bring A Fish Out Of Water to the main stage. Inspired by the New Vic’s Christmas show The Little Mermaid, Strathcross will present their own under-the-sea adventure story for friends and family.

Drawing inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairytale, the group have been studying the text of The Little Mermaid and using it as a means to theatrically explore the effects of miscommunication between neurodiverse and atypical people, portrayed by the two worlds of the story: the world on land where humans live and the world under the sea where merpeople live. In exploring current issues relevant to the group, the performance gives prominence to the overriding sentiment that we should all love our community, stand united with our neighbours and accept people of all backgrounds.

Strathcross have enjoyed a year of creative triumphs including their contribution to the New Vic’s Jubilee Peace Garden which won Silver in the Britain In Bloom Award for the second year in a row, and A Fish Out Of Water provides a fitting finale to a highly successful and exciting 2025.
