The New Vic’s much-loved ‘Tale Trail’ adventure show for young theatregoers and their families returns from Wednesday 9 to Thursday 24 December, offering children aged 3-5 a unique opportunity to experience the magic of storytelling in a relaxed and accessible theatre environment.
Based on Mary Norton’s classic family adventure story, The Borrowers, Tale Trail to The Borrowers will transport audiences into the enchanting world of the tiny ‘Clock’ family who live beneath the floorboards of an old English house and survive by ‘borrowing’ the things they need from the human world above. Inviting the youngest theatregoers to enter an immersive set and become part of the story, the production is imbued with captivating colours, exciting textures and calming soundscapes.
Adapted by Jill Rezzano, New Vic’s Head of Education, and directed by Katherine Hughes, the show reunites the pair who last worked together on 2019’s Tale Trail to The Wind In The Willows, which was nominated for a UK Theatre Award for Best Show for Children and Young People.
Bringing this magical adventure story to life, the cast includes Isobel Chadwick (The Card, New Vic Theatre; Rats’ Tales, The Miner Birds, New Vic Borderlines; A Box Of Tricks, Goofus Theatre) as Arrietty and Morgan Avery (A Fox’s Tale, 7Sense Theatre; The Merchant of Venice, Henry IV Part 1 + 2, Shakespeare Unstaged) as Boy.
A fully inclusive experience designed to allow young ones to explore their sense of play whilst letting their imaginations lead the way, Tale Trail is a fantastic introduction to the world of theatre and storytelling for preschoolers and their families.
