New Vic sets sail for Treasure Island this Christmas!

3rd April 2017

Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure tale will be given the trademark New Vic treatment this Christmas, as we stage Treasure Island, from Saturday 18 November 2017 – Saturday 27 January 2018.

Adapted and directed by Artistic Director Theresa Heskins, Treasure Island  will take audiences on a journey across the high seas, filled with larger-than-life characters, swashbuckling sword fights, live music, humour, puppetry, and of course, plenty of pirates!

Brought to the stage by the same creative team behind our adaptations of The Snow Queen, The Borrowers and The Hundred and One Dalmatians, our festive season is set to be a memorable adventure that the whole family can enjoy.

Theresa Heskins, New Vic Artistic Director, said: “Plays that speak to audiences across the generations makes for my favourite kind of theatre. Knowing that so many children will experience their first taste of the magic and wonder of theatre by coming along makes this time of year all the more special to the New Vic. The great thing about theatre-in-the-round is that the audience feels swept up in the action and this year we’re going for out-and-out adventure. So the heart-thuddingly exciting fights; the drama of climbing a ship’s rigging; the lure of buried treasure and the danger of an island populated by pirates will all be brought to vivid life in front of and around our audience. What an adventure we’re going on!”
