Annual Madula showcase comes to the New Vic for 2023

Workshops inspired by the music of Africa and Brazil will take place on 25th February and 4th March to create performances for our annual Madula showcase. This year our showcase honours the theme “Belong” in association with New Vic Borderlines and will be presented at the New Vic on Saturday 11 March at 2pm.

Free Interactive Community Workshops

An African Balafon workshop on Saturday 25 February from 10.30am to 4.00pm. All ages and abilities are welcome to come and learn how to play the balafon with Moussa Sylla, a master of the instrument.

A Brazilian carnival drumming workshop on Saturday 4 March from 10.30am to 4.00pm. This open workshop in samba reggae drumming with Mika from Art Brasil will provide the opportunity to try out a range of colourful drums including big bass drums, tall hand drums and buzzing snares, as well as agogo bells, tamborims and shakers.

Madula is a collective of community groups, alongside international musicians, delivering empowering creative and cultural workshops, performances and projects for children, young people and other community groups in North Staffordshire and the Midlands.

The showcase on Saturday 11 March will also feature performances from U3A Banjul, Kasanti at St Lukes, Art Brasil, InterTheatre company, Sarah Miller, Mr.Will and more.
