New Vic Artistic Director Theresa Heskins said: “It’s been a joy adapting this much-loved ballet into a play which I hope will capture the imaginations of every generation this Christmas. I discovered so many new things about this story which I think will surprise and enthral audiences. We also welcome many new faces to the New Vic as part of this cast which is exciting. The music from James Atherton is guaranteed to be enchanting, seamlessly woven together with Tchaikovsky’s iconic music that we all know and love. I can’t wait to get cracking on this ambitious production, which could be possibly the most Christmassy show we’ve ever done!”

Audiences will join Marie and the charming Nutcracker Prince on an enchanting journey through a land of sugar-spun snowflakes to find themselves in the Kingdom of Sweets, a mystical realm where toys come to life. Can Marie help end a long feud between the Mouse Queen and the inhabitants of the Kingdom to break the sacred spell? Or is it all just a dream…

Adapted and directed by New Vic Artistic Director Theresa Heskins (Marvellous, Alice In Wonderland, UK Theatre Awards Best Show for Children and Young People 2017 The Snow Queen, and Olivier Award-winning The Worst Witch, West End), with music adapted and directed by James Atherton (Alice in Wonderland, The Snow Queen, Coppelia – A Mystery) and realised by the resident creative team behind all your favourite New Vic shows of recent years, The Nutcracker: A Christmas Fairytale will sparkle with beautiful music and dance, delightful storytelling and magical surprises.
