JOHN GODBER’S ICONIC COMEDY CLASSIC BOUNCERS GETS INTO THE NEW VIC

22nd February 2023

John Godber’s most famous play Bouncers comes to the New Vic this spring.

The John Godber Company, in association with CAST, present the unmissable comedy classic at the theatre-in-the-round from Tuesday 28 March to Saturday 1 April.

An outrageous celebration of the Northern nightclub scene, it’s a screamingly funny ride through the watchful eyes of the Bouncers as the boys and the girls go ‘out out’ in a 1980s Yorkshire disco.

The club’s getting hot but out in the cold the Bouncers – Lucky Eric (Frazer Hammill), Les (George Reid), Judd (Lamin Touray) and Ralph (Tom Whittaker) – are ready for anything.

Originally premiering at the Edinburgh Festival in 1977, the play has become an international sensation, gathering awards from around the world. Voted as one of the greatest plays of the 20th Century in a National Theatre poll, Bouncers was nominated for Comedy of the Year in 1985, won seven Los Angeles Critics’ Circle Awards and five awards in Chicago in 1987.

Hilarious, vulgar, frenetic and highly physical, Bouncers is as eye-wateringly funny, celebratory and relevant today as it ever was. With a pumping eighties soundtrack, this new production, directed by Jane Thornton, takes us back to the glorious highs when disco was king, and everyone lived for the weekend.

So you’d better hurry and get your tickets, if your name’s not down, you’re not coming in!

Writer and Director John Godber said: “We are so looking forward to coming back to the New Vic theatre with this retro 80s version of the iconic Bouncers. The show has been filling theatres on tour and we can’t wait to see it in-the-round at the New Vic, where we know audiences will love it!”

Bouncers takes to the stage at the New Vic from Tuesday 28 March to Saturday 1 April 2023. Tickets are on sale now, priced from £20.00. For more information and to book call the Box Office on 01782 717962 or online here.
