MARVELLOUS CAST VISIT STOKE CITY FC’S BET365 STADIUM WITH FORMER KITMAN NEIL BALDWIN

The cast of the New Vic Theatre’s latest show had a Marvellous day out this week at the bet365 stadium with Stoke City FC’s former kitman Neil ‘Nello’ Baldwin, whose life the play is based on.

Back by popular demand, Marvellous takes to the stage at the New Vic from Saturday 17 September to Saturday 8 October, after its first smash-hit run earlier this year.

Helping the original cast of seven get back into character ready for the show to reopen, Neil showed them around his beloved football ground and even pointed out his usual seat where he watches the games.

Cast members Suzanne Ahmet, Charlie Bence, Gareth Cassidy, Alex Frost, Michael Hugo, Jerone Marsh-Reid and Daniel Murphy recreated key moments from the play (and Neil’s real life) including him giving advice to former Stoke City FC manager Lou Macari in the dugout dressed as a Chicken. For most of the cast this was their first ever visit to the ground.

Neil ‘Nello’ Baldwin, who helped to create the play about his life, said: “When I was told we could get all the cast together to visit the ground, I thought that was lovely. It’s my team, I go to nearly every game, I’m glad I was there as kitman and it’s great to be there again. I think some of the cast, although this was their first time there, will be back. I enjoyed heading the ball with Michael Hugo by the pitch. It brought back lovely memories.”

Stoke City FC Head of Community Adrian Hurst said: “We were delighted to host the cast of Marvellous for a photo shoot at the bet365 Stadium. For many people including Neil the Stadium is a special place and to experience it without a passionate crowd is most unusual.”

Following its performances at the New Vic, Marvellous will transfer to London where it will be the opening production at @sohoplace – the first new West End theatre to be built in 50 years.
