MY THOUSAND YEAR OLD LAND RETURNS TO NEW VIC STAGE BEFORE SPREADING MESSAGE OF HOPE ON UK TOUR

21st June 2023

A powerful documentary play from New Vic Borderlines about truth, hope and justice, based on survivor testimonies from the genocide and war crimes that took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 1990s will be performed at the New Vic this July before heading out on a UK tour.

After receiving international recognition for its poignant and honest production first premiered at the New Vic in 2022, New Vic BorderlinesMy Thousand Year Old Land will take to the stage once again next month before setting off on tour. Opening at the New Vic for three performances from Friday 7 and Saturday 8 July, the production will then visit venues in Birmingham, Derby, Manchester, Dewsbury and Bradford, sharing its message of hope to audiences across the country.

Following women, whose lives are changed by the violent deaths of their communities’ men, the play – written by Bosnian war survivor Aida Haughton MBE and New Vic Borderlines Director Sue Moffat – focuses on the domestic impact of the war on everyday people. Traditional folk songs and poetry complement the real words of survivors in this performance which examines what it really means to have roots in a place.
