New Vic Borderlines’ popular family-focused event Fab Food and Financial Folktales will be touring venues and community groups across Staffordshire from Tuesday 27 to Saturday 31 October, as part of free half-term activities delivered by the theatre.
A free interactive event, Fab Food and Financial Folktales draws inspiration from the classic story of Hansel and Gretel and sees three actors perform a modified version of the well-loved fairy tale. Suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy, the event aims to address financial challenges faced by local families by using folk tales and fun creative activities to explore money management skills, build social connections, foster friendships and provide a greater sense of wellbeing for members of the community.
Funded by HSBC, the Fab Food and Financial Folktales events also distributes food parcels containing sandwiches, treats and activity books to take home for all attendees, helping to support families in need throughout the school holidays. Designed to inspire attendees to budget, plan, and enjoy cooking together as a family, these free events help provide members of the community with the tools they need to help avoid financial issues whilst enjoying creative activities and musical storytelling right on their doorstep.
A firm part of the New Vic Borderlines programme, this half-term the event tours to Burton, Stafford North End and the New Vic.
New Vic Borderlines Director Sue Moffat said: “Folk tales have always helped us make sense of the world, and sometimes the real monsters are poverty, debt and the fear of not having enough. Through laughter, music and storytelling, we bring families together to tackle difficult conversations without shame or judgement. Because no one should face hard times alone.”
