Next Chapter group On The Move in event for Mental Health Awareness Week

16th May 2024

New Vic Borderlines’ Next Chapter group presented promenade event On The Move for Mental Health Awareness Week this Thursday.

Next Chapter is a community drama project involving adults with experience of mental health issues, homelessness, and addiction; and recently received support from generous audience members during The Big Give, which saw public donations doubled by match funding support from Stoke Creates through Arts Council England.

The event moved around different areas of the New Vic Theatre – from the auditorium, to the peace garden, to the outdoor classroom and other spaces – whilst exploring the different mental health journeys of participants.

Various activities took place including the use of a giant human snakes and ladders board in the auditorium, the performance of songs written in previous sessions, and mindfulness activities to give a taster of what happens in the Next Chapter sessions.

Mental Health Awareness Week takes place this year from Monday 13 to Sunday 19 May with the theme of ‘movement’.
