TALENT RUNS IN THE FAMILY AS LATEST GODBER PLAY SUNNY SIDE UP BRINGS A SPOT OF SEASIDE CHARM TO NEW VIC STAGE

18th October 2021

The John Godber Company make a much-anticipated return to the New Vic with their newest play Sunny Side Up.

Written and directed by John Godber (Bouncers, Gym and Tonic, Scary Bikers), Sunny Side Up is a hilarious and moving account of a struggling Yorkshire coast B&B and the people who run it.

Played by the real-life Godber family, with John, wife Jane Thornton and daughter Martha Godber all starring, and daughter Elizabeth Godber as Company Stage Manager, the production tours to the New Vic from Tuesday 26 to Saturday 30 October.

This sharply funny show blends authenticity and pathos in signature Godber style, addressing the problems of levelling up, leaving home and never forgetting where you come from.

Set in fictional Sunnyside – named the worst seaside town in the country – join down to earth proprietors Barney, Cath and Tina as they share their stories of awkward clients, snooty relatives and eggs over easy, in this seaside feel-good rollercoaster which digs into what our ‘staycations’ are all about.

Socially-distanced performances of this production are available on Wednesday 27 October at 7.30pm and Saturday 30 October at 2.15pm for those who would feel more comfortable with some extra space during their visit.

Tickets for Sunny Side Up are on sale now, priced from £17.50 – £26.50, and can be booked by calling the Box Office on 01782 717962 or online here. Contains adult themes, recommended age 14 +.
