Theresa Heskins
Theresa Heskins is Artistic Director of Staffordshire’s New Vic Theatre.
Productions she has directed for the New Vic include The Princess and the Pea, which transferred to New York and London’s Southbank Centre; Marvellous which opened the West End’s Soho Place Theatre; Around the World in 80 Days, which transferred to New York and Florida; The Snow Queen, which won the UK Theatre Award for Best Production for Children and Young People;
Her production of The Worst Witch for Kenny Wax/Nimax/Northampton Theatres won an Olivier Award for Best Production for Families and Children.
Prior to the New Vic she was Artistic Director of Pentabus Theatre, directing productions including Bryony Lavery’s Precious Bane in English Heritage and National Trust gardens; White Open Spaces which toured with the British Council and was nominated for a South Bank Show Award; Silent Engine in association with the National Theatre Studio, which won a Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival.
Prior to Pentabus she was Joint Artistic Director of Jade, directing productions including Grace which was runner up to The League of Gentlemen in Edinburgh’s Channel 4 Comedy Awards.
Scripts she has written for the New Vic have been performed all over the world including Edinburgh’s Lyceum Theatre; Cardiff’s Sherman Theatre; the Watermill Theatre; Keswick Theatre by the Lake; Northampton Theatres; Canada, Czechoslovakia and Kuala Lumpur among others.
She trained at Birmingham Rep on the Regional Theatres Young Director Scheme.
She has received honorary degrees from the Open University, Staffordshire University and Keele University.
