ONE-NIGHT CONCERTS AND EVENTS RETURN TO THE NEW VIC!

23rd September 2021

One-night-only events at the New Vic are back, with the theatre announcing a stellar line-up of acts including concerts, comedy and even a little bit of magic.

Next month sees the first one-night event to take to the New Vic stage post-lockdown – Giselle, a beautiful story of love and loss transformed into an extraordinary new ballet by Ballet Cymru, on Monday 4 October.

The eclectic month of one-night events will continue with traditional folk music duo Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham on Wednesday 6 October. Meanwhile Ode to Joyce on Wednesday 13 October recreates entertainer Joyce Grenfell’s hilarious and beautifully observed monologues and songs which went on to inspire comedians like Victoria Wood and Miranda Hart.

November sees a packed month of one-night events, kicking off with food critic Jay Rayner setting out to answer the ultimate question of what he’d choose for his last supper in barnstorming show My Last Supper: One Meal a Lifetime in the Making on Wednesday 3 November. The Darius Brubeck Quartet will play an unforgettable evening of jazz standards, hits and new compositions in their show On the Road on Thursday 4 November. Lucy Worsley makes a return to the New Vic on Friday 5 November with A Very British Murder, an illustrated, forensically-detailed tour of what she considers a now-national fascination. Then Britain’s Got Talent 2017 finalist and master of satire Daliso Chaponda emerges from lockdown with a new show of the slickest, sharpest look at life on Saturday 6 November.

Coming mid-November, An Audience with Lesley Garrett: A Diva and a Piano sees the beloved soprano share an evening of not only songs, but unique insights into her life on stage, on Wednesday 10 November. In John Shuttleworth’s Back, the singing comedian regales audiences with an evening of new and classic tunes as well as hilarious ‘back stories’, pausing only to reapply his deep heat rub. And following their memorable performance in the New Vic’s production of Brassed Off, Acceler8 Band (formerly TCTC Group Band and the Co-operative Band, Crewe) return on Saturday 13 November with their up-tempo music that will leave you on a high.

Rounding off 2021, The Albion Band on Tuesday 14 December is the perfect start to Christmas festivities, with its mixture of carols, spoken word and humorous readings. It’s followed by another seasonal favourite, The Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir on Saturday 18 December. Having appeared at the New Vic for over three decades, their return is much-anticipated and a spine-tingling evening of music is guaranteed.

Kicking off 2022 in style, sensational 1950s Rock ‘n’ Roll band The Bluejays play the biggest hits of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, The Everly Brothers, Eddie Cochran and more on Wednesday 5 January. Britain’s Got Talent 2019 finalist Ben Hart, described by David Walliams as ‘the living embodiment of magic’, will visit with his debut solo tour Wonder on Wednesday 12 January, using the simplest of props, and objects and minds of the audience, to conjure a new kind of magic. Universally acclaimed as one of the finest ever acoustic and slide guitar players, and a fine banjo-picker to boot, folk fans will thoroughly enjoy an evening of music with Martin Simpson on Wednesday 19 January. Then The Pasadena Roof Orchestra rounds-off the currently announced season of one-night events, performing electrifying hot jazz from the golden 1920s and 1930s on Wednesday 26 January.

Tickets for one-night events at the New Vic are on sale now and can be booked by calling the Box Office on 01782 717962 or online at newvictheatre.org.uk.
