Thrive at Five: New Vic Borderlines host workshops to support children’s literacy skills post-covid

1st February 2023

New Vic Borderlines are working with young children aged up to five to build their reading ability and get them ‘school ready’.

It follows research that suggested ‘school readiness’ in children of this age group has been detrimentally affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Pupils at schools in Abbey Hulton, Bucknall and Bentilee will participate in a Borderlines workshop based around the book The Duck Who Didn’t Like Water by Steve Small. They will play games, create songs, and animate the story using props, allowing them to explore the concepts of ‘time’ ‘space and place’ and emotions/feelings.

Through the workshop the children will create their favourites moments from the story and perform these moments at sharing events on 4 and 11 February.
