Bob Eaton
Writer and Director
Bob began his career as director and writer in 1971 at the Victoria Theatre, Stoke-on-Trent, since when he has directed over two hundred productions, and written or co-written over fifty shows, many of them involving popular music, particularly the rock &roll of his teenage years. In 1981, as Artistic Director of the Liverpool Everyman Theatre, he wrote and directed Lennon, the world’s first actor/musician theatre show, which later transferred to New York and London. He also directed, adapted for the stage, and wrote the songs for Willy Russell’s Our Day Out. In the late 80’s and early 90’s he directed and wrote many shows for The New Vic, including Good Golly Miss Molly, I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire and, with Sayan Kent, Country and The Good Companions. In 2000, as Artistic Director of the Belgrade Theatre Coventry he wrote the Two-Tone musical Three Minute Heroes based on the songs of The Specials and The Selecter. Most of his work this century has been for Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre and includes Girls Don’t Play Guitars, the true story of the world’s first female guitar group. He is absolutely delighted to be back at The New Vic and working with so many friends, old and new.
