A LOOK BACK AT OUR SENSASIAN CELEBRATION

12th August 2025

Last month, the New Vic partnered with Appetite to deliver Sensasian, an exciting series of performances and creative activities celebrating South Asian Heritage Month. The programme, which took place from Monday 30 June to Saturday 26 July, was created in collaboration with the local South Asian community and offered a vibrant range of entertainment for people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy.

On Saturday 26 July, we hosted a free Family Day at the theatre which included acrobatic displays, henna painting, live musical performances, a family quiz show, poetry sharing and block printing workshops. The latest exhibition of artist and educator Nilupa Yasmin’s work Grow Me a Waterlily and Shekah, was displayed throughout the building in collaboration with Grain Projects.

On stage, Yeh Dosti, a mesmerising dance performance bringing to life the energy, drama and romance of the iconic Bollywood film Sholay celebrated the film’s 50th anniversary while The Ladies of Laughter featured Shazia Mirza (BBC, ITV, CH4), Tey Dhutia (BBC AN), Annette Fagon (BBC Local Radio & Radio 1Xtra) and Noreen Kahn (BBC AN, BBC 1, BBC Radio 5 Live) for a night of hilarious stand-up comedy.
