BORDERLINES SPEND SUMMER PROVIDING HAF (HOLIDAY, ACTIVITIES AND FOOD) PROGRAMME

5th September 2025

Over the school summer holiday, the New Vic Borderlines team spent time out across the region hosting their Arthur Berry inspired workshops, introducing young children to the wonderful work of the Stoke-on-Trent born playwright as a painter and storyteller, as part of the HAF (Holiday, Activities and Food) programme.

Last week, New Vic Borderlines took their workshop to St Joseph’s Catholic School in Goldenhill and invited a group of 27 children, aged 4-11 years old, from surrounding schools to drop in and participate in a day of art-based activities.

The team introduced Arthur Berry’s work to the young children, teaching them about valuing one’s community, sharing their stories and exploring their own creativity through art mediums such as sketching, storytelling and painting.

Young children enjoyed participating in a range of Berry inspired activities such as colouring in their own Arthur Berry style images, drawing on miniature figures inspired by the people they know and creating their own exhibition to showcase to parents and teachers.

Alongside creative based activities, the young children also got to participate in fun physical drama games such as House, Child, Storm, aimed at introducing young children to visual storytelling, and much-loved physical activity games such as Grandma’s Footsteps and more!

Led by the Borderlines team, the day of activities offered an enriching experience for young children to explore their creativity and play, with the support of St Joseph’s Catholic School offering free lunch, safe facilities and teaching support during the half term holidays.
