To mark the SJT’s 60th anniversary, Alan Ayckbourn returns to the New Vic with a revival of one of his most popular plays. “Sharp, sad and funny” (The Guardian), Confusions was last seen at the Library Theatre, Scarborough, in 1974.
From a devoted and isolated mother, to her unfaithful travelling salesman husband; a solicitous waiter to well-heeled diners; and not forgetting an utterly shambolic garden fête. Human frailty is laid bare as one hilarious situation after another unfolds.
From high farce to poignant observation; the laughs, however dark, just keep on coming.
"Ayckbourn's triumphant return to his 1974 curiosity...."
— Alfred Hickling, The Guardian
"Alan Ayckbourn has nothing to preserve him from despair but an ingenious brain and immense high spirits...."
— Harold Hobson, The Sunday Times
"Funny, touching and clever..."
— Paul Vallely, The Independent
"A comic mastermind..."
— William Stafford, The Sentinel
