On the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide, New Vic Borderlines, supported by Remembering Srebrenica, Huddersfield University Centre of Archaeology and Bradford City of Culture present a special version of My Thousand Year Old Land, a documentary piece of theatre, written by Aida Haughton MBE and Susan Moffat, Director of New Vic Borderlines.
Based on survivor testimonies from the genocides and war crimes that took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1990s, this play brought the beauty, music and culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina to audiences, telling a story of the search for truth, justice and hope through women whose lives are changed by the deaths of their communities’ men in war.
“Having worked for the ICTY in Bosnia from 1996 – 2001, I can say that the cast portrayed the genocide in Srebrenica both sensitively and forensically. At first, I tried to stop my tears but unashamedly let them fall. I found it interesting when the cast sometimes spoke in Bosnian…. This play has international significance and should be seen worldwide.”
Robert McNeil MBE, former UN Anatomical Pathology Technologist
“It was a wonderful play, very moving and truly educational too.”
Aron Mon, Remembering Srebrenica Project Manager, Birmingham
