TIME TRAVELLING ADVENTURE AWAITS YOUNG PEOPLE THIS SUMMER AS NEW VIC EDUCATION’S ‘PLAY IN A WEEK’ RETURNS

27th June 2025

New Vic Education invite young people into a world of timeless imagination this summer as their popular holiday projects aimed at primary and secondary school aged children return.

  • Play In A Week’ returns with The Time Travellers’ Playground from Monday 28 July to Friday 1 August aimed at children aged between 10 to 15.
  • Playful workshop The Time Travellers’ Adventure aimed at children aged between 5 to 9 takes place on Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 August.

Taking young people on an unforgettable journey through history, The Time Travellers’ Playground, a hand-crafted play written by New Vic Youth Theatre Director and Education Practitioner Amy Fletcher for children aged between 10 to 15,returns from Monday 28 July to Friday 1 August. The play explores themes of the past and future and allows participants to develop character-building skills whilst meeting likeminded people. During the weeklong ‘Play In A Week’ programme, the group will have the opportunity to learn about the play, read-through the script, be cast in a part, and rehearse with fellow cast members leading up to a performance for family and friends on Friday 1 August at 5.00pm.

For younger children, The Time Travellers’ Adventure is a creative two-day workshop for children aged five to nine which takes place on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 August from 10.00am to 3.00pm. Exploring dinosaurs, medieval castles and marvelling at what the future might hold through playing games, creating crafts and taking part in time-bending drama activities, this fun-filled project is a perfect adventure through the ages!

Amy Fletcher, New Vic Youth Theatre Director and Education Practitioner said: I’m really excited for our summer holiday projects this year! Play In A Week is a really fun project and a highlight, it’s great to welcome new and familiar faces to the theatre where we start with just a script and spend the week working together to bring the story to life. Our project for 5 – 9s is a fun couple of days where we play drama games, craft and enjoy creating stories together.”
