The one and only Alan Ayckbourn returns to the New Vic with a new revival of his classic comedy, directed by the author himself. First produced in Scarborough in 1987 and then in London’s West End, starring Ian McKellen and Jane Asher, it won that year’s Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy.
All alone, high up in an isolated, derelict suburban tower block, avant garde composer Jerome is vainly struggling to complete his life’s masterwork about love. The problem is, he’s lost the source of his artistic inspration, his beloved daughter Geain, taken away by her mother, his hostile, estranged ex-wife.
So, with the help of a deranged, android childminder, Jerome hatches a cunning plan to get her back. But the best laid plans of men and mechanical women . . .
